Halong Bay itself also has its own legend. It is supposed that a herd of dragon alighting land to help Vietnamese fight against aggressor according to the God’s instruction. About legend of each caves, Dau Go is one of the caves having mysterious legend behind. People said that in the fight against Nguyen-Mong, Tran Hung Dao (a general of Vietnam) prepare a lot of pointed wood stakes planted inside land and there are still many piece of wood here. Therefore, people call this caves Dau Go (pieces of wood). On the other hands, other theory said that because Tran Hung Dao hide wood stake here, so it is called Giau Go (hiding wood) and gradually it is called Dau Go as a disguised name. One more legend that is also very popular is Thien Cung’s. The legend of this cave says that Dragon King after helping people fight against invader comes back his cave. It is a year of drought and people keep begging Dragon King for help, but there are many people never come back after finding him. Facing with that situation a young couple go to Thien Cung cave to find him with determination. Their daughter named May (cloud) finally have a 7-day-wedding with Dragon princess at the middle of cave because he fall in love with him. One more legend that you may hear about when coming Halong bay is about Sung Sot cave. Sung sot cave has a horse and a sword inside it, which is left by Thanh Giong (a hero helping people fight against invader in Vietnam legend) to reassure people and drive away devils here. A lot of images in the cave seem to be the vestiges of that fierce war, the footprints of horse become tiny lake with plentiful broken stones
Halong bay is not only beautiful of its poetic scene and great weather but also because of mysterious atmosphere it gives people.
